How to Actually Achieve Your Goals –
Part 3, Using A Vision Board
So far in our series you have:
- Completed the 3 steps to defining your goals and the tasks to achieve them.
- Learned about how visualization will help you understand the feeling of success.
In this newsletter we will cover the
final step
to achieving your goals. This final step is actually a crucial step in achieving your goal(s). I have used vision boards in goal setting exercises with my clients for 15 years and it has always generated great results.
You will need:
- Several magazines (old or new)
- Standard Bristol size board (any type of board with a hard backing will work)
First gather a pile of new magazines. Once you have your magazines look through them and cut out anything that is related to your goal.
Second paste your cut pictures onto a Bristol board. Most of my clients take a few days to cut out and glue everything together, so take some time to complete this exercise. It usually takes a few days to a week. Longer than one week and you will find you lose your momentum. Do your best to complete this task, in one week's time.
In the book The Secret, by Rhonda Bryne, the author refers to energy and where you put it. The saying "Energy flows where your thoughts go" is so true. Visualizing yourself achieving your goal and life after that is critical to accelerating the process of attaining your goals. Spend 10 to 15 minutes a day looking at your vision board and imaging what life will be like once you have reached your goal. This exercise replaces the visualization exercise you were doing from the last newsletter where you were visualizing that you had attained your goal. Now you will use the vision board to increase the energy you put forth to achieving your goal. I personally like to do this exercise at bed time, but anytime of day is fine. The picture of your life will become clearer and clearer every time you do this exercise. Some people place their vision board where they can see it all day. This is a great idea if you can do it. If that is not possible, concentrate on taking 10 to 15 minutes daily to focus on your vision board.
Begin the journey to changing your life by starting these exercises today. You now have the tools you need to successfully achieve your goals.
