What is Reiki? How Reiki works, and how it can help you.

What Is Reiki?

Today Reiki has become a popular practice, which many people have heard about, but not everyone knows how Reiki can help them or how it works. Reiki was developed in Japan in the late 1800s by Miko Usui as a method to make the mind and body healthy and balanced. Miko Usui describes Reiki as “love, harmony and healing energy.”

How Reiki Works

Reiki is a healing technique where the Reiki practitioner or Master’s body is used as the tool through which universal energy flows from the practitioner’s hands to the recipient’s body to heal or balance the recipient’s mind, body and emotions. As A Master, I use symbols to facilitate the energy flow and to work on different issues people experience. There is a Reiki symbol that allows me to call in your energy body; this is referred to as distant healing.

I often use the distant healing symbol when I am talking to a client on the phone allowing me to work on healing them while we are discussing an issue they are dealing with. The client is aware that I am doing this work and will often comment on the increased mental clarity and balance they feel at the end of the session.

What Reiki Can Do For You

Reiki can be used to resolve a variety of issues or situations. When you request a Reiki treatment or attunement, either in person or on the phone, I begin the treatment at your forehead and place my hands over various areas, such as your face, your neck, and your heart area. I work my way down the front of your body looking for areas where the energy feels different. I can sense when an area is out of balance, sometimes the area will feel too hot. This usually indicates there is too much energy in that area, so I will spend extra time placing my hands over that area to balance the energy. Sometimes my client’s say this brings up certain feeling or thoughts, while other just feel a tremendous sense of relief. Once I have finished going through the front of the body, I repeat the same process on your on the back, starting at the head and working my way through the back area and down the legs. Again I look for areas that are not balanced. I have had several clients who have coldness in their kidney areas when I am giving them a Reiki treatment. Coldness usually indicates a lack of energy flowing to that area. For my clients, with kidneys that feel cool, I spend extra time in that area until the energy feels balanced. I often discuss this area with my clients because kidneys are frequently an area that is cold due to fear in their lives. Balancing in a Reiki Treatment helps support the kidneys and helps one move out of fear. Discussing it ensures that clients are aware, but perhaps are not dealing with their fear as effectively as they need to be. I recently had a client who had a very traumatic past and, although he had gone through a lot of therapy, his body was still holding onto the memories. I used Reiki and some empowerment techniques to help him release the trauma from his body. After a few sessions, he told me he couldn’t remember the last time his back was not in pain and that now he felt absolutely no pain at all. It was the first time I had seen this particular client smile. Reiki can also help you gain mental clarity. If you are on “overload” Reiki can assist in clearing t your emotions and your mind. My clients often say how clear their mind feels after a treatment.

Reiki is also a great healing tool for physical injuries. For example, if a child falls and hurts themselves, using Reiki on that child right away can help that child heal and let go of the injury immediately. I use it on my own children whenever they hurt themselves and the results are always immediate relief from the injury. Now if a child broke their arm, they would still need to have the arm reset, but Reiki can help significantly diminish the intensity of the pain associated with the injury. If you suffer from headaches often, Reiki can completely alleviate your headache.

During a treatment, some of my clients experience sensations of heat, or visions, while other clients may suddenly have the need to talk about all their feelings that might be releasing. Some of my clients do not experience any sensations while the treatment is occurring. There is no right or wrong response to a treatment. Everyone experiences Reiki differently. However, it is common after a Reiki treatment for you to feel balanced and peaceful.

Reiki can be combined with other healing modalities making it an extraordinary tool for helping people. In my practice I often use Reiki, sometimes on its own and sometimes in combination with whichever healing practices will work best for the client.

If you’d like to share your experiences with Reiki as a healing tool, I’d love to hear them. If you’d like to learn more about how I use Reiki in my practice to help resolve issues surrounding anxiety or mental clarity, let’s connect!
