After a long winter, it is time to Declutter and Get Organized
As the weather approaches Spring, many people have a sense of being overwhelmed with their surroundings. The clutter has accumulated! Spring triggers a sense of new beginnings and for many a sense that it's time to clean up! The big question is where does one start? Here are a couple of steps to help you with your Spring decluttering.
Step 1 - Make a list
The very first thing you need to do is make a list of what needs to get done. This helps in a variety of ways. Most importantly this task reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed by how much needs to be done. By creating a list, you move through everything that is cluttering your mind and psyche. A list also gives you the opportunity to look at prioritizing what needs to be done first. If you look at your list and it's so long that you can't prioritize it then just start with the first item on your list and work your way down. In either case your list of organizing will be accomplished!
Step 2 - Schedule in decluttering
Next you need to make a commitment that is realistic about setting aside time on a weekly basis to declutter. Schedule your declutter time in your day timer or on a calendar just as you would a doctor's appointment. Make the commitment to follow through by keeping that time slot dedicated to decluuttering and becoming organized. Start in one room, or your deck or your front closet and be realistic. Depending on the amount of clutter you may not get everything done in one declutter time slot. Meeting your goal gives you a sense of accomplishment and motivates you to continue. Failure to meet your goals, set too high will only contribute to a sense of failure. Remember stay focused! For example, if a friend calls and suggests you go out for a coffee, during your declutter time slot, decline. Honor your commitment to cleaning up your space. It is not a life long commitment. It is temporary until your space is organized and you will be rewarded with an amazing sense of accomplishment. You'll actually enjoy hanging out in your living space! After you have successfully accomplished this task you will feel that the weight of the world has been lifted off your shoulders.
