Spring is in the Air... it is Time to Let The Light Back Into Your Life
For many people, 2009 was a dark and difficult year. There were natural disasters and economic hardships with ripple effects touching many of our lives. As you enter into the third month of 2010, it is time to begin to let the light back into your life.
For those of us in North America who live in a four season climate, winter is on its way out. You have probably noticed the days are slowly getting longer, and the sun grows a little warmer with each passing day. As you embrace the physical manifestation of spring awakening and light returning, it is also a great time to embrace your spiritual light.
Here are some useful tips to let your inner light shine brighter in your life:
1) Take a few minutes daily to mentally direct your focus toward connecting with your spiritual source, your higher power, or God. The name or label you use doesn’t matter as much as being able to cultivate and embrace a feeling of connection, or perhaps reconnection, with your inner light.
2) Before you go to sleep at night, think of two things you are grateful for. These can be as simple as having a home and food, or as extravagant as your new car. The purpose behind this exercise is to redirect your thinking and awareness toward all you have to be grateful for. It is very easy to get caught up in looking at what you don’t have in life; this exercise is simple to do and gives you perspective, with an added bonus that it will help you have a more peaceful sleep!
3) Sign up for a meditation class, or take a course that helps you awaken or refresh your spiritual side. An experienced guide, and a supportive group go a long way to helping us cultivate our energy and focus in a direction of our choosing.
4) Go for a walk and pay attention to your surroundings. Appreciate the wonders and miracles of nature. Pay careful attention and you will notice the increasing signs of spring... green buds, melting ice, the songs of cheerful birds. Such outings will give you an opportunity to embrace the beauty and life awakening in spring
5) Make plans to go on a spiritual retreat. For some, spiritual retreats can be a place to replenish yourself. Look at a variety of places and one of them may just naturally appeal to you... it can be fun to try something new, or affirming to return to a once-useful practice or group.
Whatever option you choose, allowing yourself the gift of light will lift your spirits. You will begin to feel buoyant and you might even find you have a sense of inner peace that has been missing in your life. Welcome the increase in light, warmth and life that comes naturally with spring by making the commitment to yourself to embrace your inner spiritual light, even if it is for a few minutes a day. Spring is in the air... it is time to let the light back into your life!
